Bar-Headed-Geese Decreases Their Metabolism To Soar Across

All You Wanted To Know About Migratory Birds

Bar-headed Geese are well known for flying at a high altitude. They make a trip from the Everest to Mongolia every year. Therefore they follow some physical changes.  bar-headed geese do that to make their trip all physically comfortable. Since this bird breed is practicing the habit of traveling from here and there. They made the body features evolve.

The Bar Headed Geese And Their Mystery

The bar-headed goose soars over the tallest peak of the Himalayas every year. They do this as a migratory process from India to Mongolia. However, this is there every year routine. The oxygen level in the air starts to thin out as the height increases. The level of oxygen drops down to 7 %. Therefore the bird tends to change the metabolism level too. It practices this habit in order to make the environment accommodating. However, the pace of the soaring remains the same. The researches of this bird reported this, especially in their report of this bird

The goose keeps on practicing the habit for decades now. This a notion that comes to the biological mystery. Many mountain climbers rarely come across this breed of bird. However, this incident dates back in the year of 1953. One mountaineer witnesses a bar-headed goose soaring over. It was during the time when he tried climbing Mount Everest.

The scientist keeps on wondering how this mysterious bird keeps on flying at an altitude over 9 km from the earth. This distance is 2 km more than any other or normal bird soaring.

Well, there have been many types of research concerning this breed of goose. Some scientist explains that this breed of goose evolved the notion of binding or storing the oxygen in their hemoglobin. Another report from the year of 2009 claims that the bird poses more capillaries in their pectoral muscle cell. The number of the pectoral muscle cell is considerably higher than the other species who also flies high.

Something More To Explore-Bar-Headed Geese

Various other studies related to these birds are coming out. Those claims that a bird at rest and a bird walking in the treadmill is normal. In this physical circumstance, one can even refer to it as a hypoxic condition. However, this physical situation fails to explain how the birds deal with the oxygen balance while taking the flights.

However, to come up with a solution, some experts went with an experiment. The timeline of the experiment began in 2010. The experiment went as they hatched around 19 geese.

After trained those baby birds to fly in a 30-yard long wind tunnel. The tunnel got physiological sensors. There were oxygen masks too in the tunnel. The make stimulated some varies air altitude situations. They went as low, medium along with high altitude wind conditions. However, the sensors worked in capturing the heartbeats of the birds then. Also, it captured the metabolic rate, temperature, oxygen level in blood.

The experiment gave out that the goose maintained their physical metabolism while soaring within the tunnel. They adjusted the low oxygen condition by cooling their blood. They even adjusted their physics with the biomechanics of the on their wings.
